TheoBros Memo Issue #27: Spiritual Immaturity, Joe Morris, and Twitter Fire From My TheoBros
TheoBros and TheoSistas,
Spiritual immaturity isn’t cute. It isn’t something we prize or brag about. Believers strive for maturity. An unwillingness to grow in theological understanding, a resistance to learning, is disastrous and can indicate we’re not really saved (Hebrews 5:11-6:8).
Believers are called to study and meditate on the Bible daily. However, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life and let our Bible study habits fall by the wayside. This is especially true in times of uncertainty or trouble, when we may feel overwhelmed and unable to focus on anything else.
As TheoBros, we know the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and that it is essential for our growth in faith and our understanding of God's will for our lives. This means that we should make a deeper commitment to Bible study in 2023, even when it feels difficult or inconvenient.
One way to do this is by setting aside a regular time each day for Bible study. This could be first thing in the morning, during lunch breaks, or before bed at night. It is also helpful to have a plan or guide for our Bible study, such as a devotional or study guide. This can help us focus our attention and ensure that we are covering a variety of passages and genres.
You can generate your own Bible reading plan here.
Another important aspect of Bible study is prayer. As we read and meditate on the Word of God, we should bring our questions, concerns, and needs before Him in prayer. This helps us to more fully engage with the text and to apply it to our lives.
Ultimately, a deeper commitment to Bible study requires discipline and effort. But it
is worth it and a confirmation of our own salvation. Scripture is sufficient for our sanctification — to better understand His will for our lives, and to be equipped to serve Him more effectively. So in 2023, let’s make a renewed commitment to daily Bible study, and see the joy that God has in store for us as we draw closer to Him through His Word.
